Protecting Our Waterways
The Vincennes Water Utilities is responsible for identifying and eliminating illegal sources of pollution to the storm sewer system and local waterways. Storm sewers consist of inlets, manholes, pipes and ditches that are designed to drain runoff during rain events and lead directly to our local waterways, like the Wabash River.

Illegal Dumping
Discharging anything to the storm sewer other than stormwater and a few exempted discharges, such as irrigation water and uncontaminated groundwater, is a violation of the Stormwater Ordinance Section 53.021 “Prohibited Discharges and Connections”.

Common Pollutants
Common sources of pollution to storm sewers include dumping of paint, oil, fuels and other household wastes into storm drains, illegal septic system discharges and contaminated runoff from construction sites.
